.
There are plenty of people who put a lot of time, energy, and hard work into growing
their business….until things get tough. They become discouraged and discontent when their results don’t immediately match their misguided expectations. They just give up! They quit before they’ve allowed enough time for the seeds they planted to be able to grow and flourish.
Most of us prevent ourselves from succeeding by simply quitting to soon or by giving up. Many times things look the most bleak just before they begin to turn around. We give up on our dreams only to find that if we would have waited a few more weeks, or a few more months, or even a year, our time and effort would begin to pay off.
It can be tough to lead your own team or organization, you’re bound to make some mistakes. And believe me those mistakes can sometimes be costly to your business, you may even lose everything you worked so hard to gain. Most of the lessons we learn from business and life, are learned from the tough times we go through. Being able to get through them is what builds character, inner strength, and the courage that we need to become great leaders.
A good example of not giving up is the story of Abraham Lincoln’s life. He came from a poor family and he had very little or no encouragement. His life is a monument to perseverance:
1831 - Failed in Business
1832 - Defeated for Legislature
1833 - Second failure in Business
1836 - Suffered a nervous breakdown.
1840 - Defeated for Elector
1843 - Defeated for Congress
1848 - Defeated for Congress a second time
1855 - Defeated for Senate
1858 - Defeated for Vice President
1858 - Defeated for Senate again
1860 – ELECTED PRESIDENT
Lincoln failed a lot of times, but he never, ever stopped trying to succeed.
When your in a position of leadership you will have the opportunity to influence other people. I encourage you to become a person who’s a great example of not giving up. Someone who’s the kind of leader that others will be proud to work with. No one can make other people’s decisions for them, but a great leader can literally change peoples lives through encouragement, and by offering the support, love, and dedication that they need in order to keep moving forward when the going gets tough.
Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation, so you must first put something into life before you can expect to get anything out of it. There’s often no way you can look into the game of life, or business, and be able to tell when you might get your big break. Regardless of what you’re doing, if you will work long enough, hard enough, and enthusiastically enough, sooner or later your efforts will produce the success you desire.
Self doubt drowns your dreams…Hesitation holds you hostage…Skepticism scares away your success…And no one is going to make you successful other than yourself. So quit making excuses, stand on your own two feet, believe you can do it, and never, never, ever give up!
